The Warmest Country
나에게 가장 따뜻했던 나라

I recently binge-watched a travel reality show. The concept was a famous webtoon artist traveling to the opposite side of the globe, in South America. The way he interacted with the locals and communicated with them to experience the local culture made me feel a sense of connection.

The process of his meeting and parting with a local Bolivian family touched me deeply.  It reminded me of my own experience about a decade ago when I traveled to Bolivia. I happened to make a friend there and ended up spending around 10 days with her family.
​
Her father warmly offered a room in their house. He treated me kindly, like a son, despite me being a stranger from a foreign country. It was a short time, but I shared a lot with her family and got to experience various aspects of the local culture.

​나는 얼마 전에 한 여행 예능 프로그램을 정주행했다. 유명한 웹툰 작가가 지구 반대편인 남미 를 여행하는 콘셉트였다. 주인공이 현지인들과 소통하고 대화를 나누면서 그 나라의 문화를 경 험하는 여행 방식에서 나는 동질감을 느꼈다.​

특히, 볼리비아 현지인 가족과 만나고 헤어지는 과정이 뭉클하게 다가왔다. 10여 년 전 볼리비 아를 여행할 당시의 나의 경험이 떠올랐기 때문이다. 그곳에서 우연히 현지인 친구를 한 명 만 났는데, 그녀의 가족과 10일 정도 함께 지내게 되었다.

그 친구의 아버지는 흔쾌히 방 한 칸을 내어 주셨다. 외국에서 온 이방인인데도 나를 아들처럼 살갑게 대해 주셨다. 짧은 기간이었지만 그 친구의 가족과 많은 부분을 공유하면서 다양한 현지 문화를 경험할 수 있었다.
