Early last year, I attended a New Year's concert at the Seoul Arts Center with my son, who had just finished applying to college. I felt so deeply moved then that the feeling still lingers in my heart. Both the pianist and the conductor had won international competitions and were active on the global stage.

My son particularly enjoyed a piano concerto where the lyrical melodies of the piano blended seamlessly with the powerful resonance of the orchestra. For me, the most unforgettable moment was the finale when all the instruments resounded all at once over a consistent, steady rhythm.

During the encore, the conductor even turned around and conducted the audience as we clapped along in time. On the way back home, even the wintry night breeze felt warm.

작년 초 대학 지원을 마친 아들과 함께 예술의 전당에서 개최된 신년 음악회에 참석했다. 당시 느꼈던 깊은 감동이 아직까지도 마음속 한 편에 남아 있다. 피아니스트와 지휘자 모두 국제 콩 쿠르에서 우승한 경력이 있고, 국제 무대에서 왕성하게 활동하고 있는 분들이었다.

아들은 피아노의 서정적인 선율과 오케스트라의 강건한 울림이 조화를 이루었던 피아노 협주곡 을 특히 마음에 들어 했다. 나는 시종일관 지속되는 일정한 리듬 위에서 모든 악기들이 일시에 강하게 울렸던 피날레 순간을 가장 잊을 수가 없었다.

앙코르곡을 연주할 때 지휘자는 돌아서서 청중의 박수 소리도 지휘했다. 집에 돌아오는 길에 겨울밤 바람마저 따스하게 다가왔다.
