The Power of Korean Sign Language

I first got started with Korean Sign Language through a recommendation from a close colleague at work.

Unlike languages that use spoken or written words, sign language relies on hand gestures, facial expressions, and body language for communication. There are specific hand gestures to directly represent words. But about 70% of communication involves conveying one's intentions through hand gestures and expressions depending on the context. That means facial expressions play a crucial role.

I am currently active in a sign language club in Daejeon with fellow students from our sign language classes. I enthusiastically encourage learning Korean Sign Language, since even a small gesture could offer comfort and consideration to someone else.

한국 수어의 힘

저는 직장에서 친한 동료의 추천으로 한국 수어에 입문했습니다.

말이나 문자를 쓰는 언어와는 다르게 수어는 손동작, 표정, 신체 언어 등을 이용하여 의사소통을 합니다. 단어를 직접적으로 나타내는 특정 손동작들은 존재합니다. 하지만 70퍼센트 가량의 소통은 그 상황에 맞게 본인의 의사를 손동작과 표정으로 상대방에게 전달합니다. 그렇기에 표 정도 매우 중요한 역할을 합니다.

저는 현재 대전에서 같이 수어 수업을 들은 학생들과 함께 수어 동아리에서 활동하고 있습니다.
작은 수어 한 동작이 어느 누군가에게는 편한 배려가 될 수 있다는 점에서 저는 한국 수어 배우기를 적극적으로 추천합니다.
