내가 사랑한 팝송

A few days ago, I heard the Backstreet Boys' "As Long As You Love Me" on the radio for the first time in ages. The song took me back to my school days when I used to enjoy foreign pop music.

During middle school, was a big fan of Solid, an R&B group comprised of three Korean Americans. R&B was an unfamiliar music genre in Korea at the time. So, to listen to similar music, I had to seek out music from overseas.

That's how I got into artists like Boyz ll Men and Mariah Carey.
Eventually, I started enjoying hip-hop as well. As I listened to pop songs, I encountered new expressions that I hadn't seen in my English textbooks. I became curious what the expressions meant, and it developed my interest in English-speaking cultures.

Even though the songs are from thirty years ago, listening to the music I loved back then still brings me a lot of joy.

며칠 전 라디오에서 아주 오랜만에 Backstreet Boys의 As Long As You Love Me를 들 었습니다. 이 노래는 외국 팝송을 즐겨 들었던 학창 시절의 추억에 잠기게 해 주었습니다.

저는 중학교 때, 재미 교포 3명으로 이루어진 솔리드(Solid)라는 R&B 그룹을 정말 좋아했습니 다. 그 당시 R&B는 우리나라에서 생소한 음악 장르였습니다. 그래서 비슷한 음악을 듣기 위해 서는 외국 음악을 찾아봐야 했습니다.

그렇게 Boyz II Men과 Marian Carey 같은 아티스트들을 좋아하게 되었고, 그 뒤로는 힙합 음악 장르까지 좋아하게 되었습니다. 팝송을 들으면서 영어 교과서에서는 보지 못했던 새로운 표현들을 접하게 되었습니다. 저는 그 표현들이 무슨 뜻인지 궁금해졌고, 이로 인해 영어 문화 권에 대한 관심도 커졌습니다.

30년이 훌쩍 지나간 노래들이지만, 예전에 좋아했던 음악을 들으면 아직도 기분이 너무 좋습니다.
