Many newly coined words have emerged recently that are not immediately understandable. They often require deciphering their meaning like solving a quiz. Sometimes, there's a sense of satisfaction when you correctly guess the meaning of a particular neologism.

Generally, neologisms are often created by mixing together English and Korean, or by combining the initial letters of Korean words to form shorter new words. Neologisms tend to be good for a laugh, and easy to pronounce.
​
Some argue that these neologisms should be accepted naturally as part of the current zeitgeist. But some have raised concerns that if this trend goes too far and leads to severe "destruction of our language," our unique cultural heritage may be damaged.

최근에는 들었을 때 바로 이해할 수 없는 신조어들이 많이 생겨났다. 퀴즈를 맞히듯이 의미를 파악해 야 할 때가 많고, 가끔 특정 신조어의 뜻을 정확하게 맞혔을 때 쾌감이 들기도 한다.

일반적으로 신조어들은 영어와 한글을 섞거나 혹은 한글 단어들의 첫 글자를 조합해서 짧고 새롭게 만 든 단어들인 경우가 많다. 신조어들은 대부분 들으면 재미있고 발음하기 쉬운 편이다.

이러한 신조어들을 현재의 시대상으로 자연스럽게 받아들여야 한다는 의견도 있다. 한편으로는 이 추 세의 정도가 지나쳐서 '국어 파괴' 현상이 심각해지면, 우리 고유의 문화적 유산이 훼손될 수도 있다고 우려하는 이들도 있다.
