What Is My Dream
나의 꿈은 무엇인가

My 9-year-old second daughter once asked me, "Mom, what's your dream in life? What do you want to be?" That question gave me a lot to think about. I gave a lot of thought to how I wanted to live my life, but I didn't have a concrete plan. I'm still in the process of figuring out what I want to do and how I want to live.

I recently read a book titled "A Grandmother Who Studies in Cafés." After reading it, I started taking on challenges I had only thought about until now. I began reading English books. I also started taking cello lessons, and today is my seventh lesson.

I remember a comment left by an elderly gentleman on a YouTube video of a wonderful cello performance. "I am 82 years old. I am receiving my third lesson. I plan to keep on playing the cello until my dying breath."

언젠가 9살 둘째 딸이 "엄마는 꿈이 뭐야? 뭐가 되고 싶어?"라고 물어본 적이 있었다. 그 질문 은 나에게 많은 생각을 하게 했다. 나는 과연 나의 삶을 어떻게 살고 싶은 걸까 고민을 많이 해 봤지만 딱히 계획이 없었다. 난 뭘 하고 싶고 어떻게 살고 싶은가를 아직도 생각하는 중이다.

최근에 '카페에서 공부하는 할머니'라는 책을 읽었다. 그 책을 읽고 여태껏 생각만 했던 것들을 하나씩 도전해 보기 시작했다. 영어 원서 읽기도 시작했고, 첼로도 배우기 시작했는데 오늘이 7 번째 레슨이다.

멋진 첼로 연주 유튜브 영상에 어느 노신사분이 남긴 댓글이 기억이 난다. "저는 82세입니다. 저는 3번째 레슨을 받고 있어요. 제 마지막 숨이 다할 때까지 첼로를 계속 연주할 거예요."
